Using Collage for Discernment
Exploring your questions through an artistic process
Service Description
To paraphrase Meister Eckhardt, “When the soul wants to have an experience, she throws an image in front of her and she steps into it.” That’s the power of the images—they go directly to the heart of the issue. We’re told that dreams always come to us in the service of our wholeness and healing. The same thing can be said for the collage-reading method we will use in this program. Come with some questions you are currently working on or wondering about or issues needing clarity. We will spend two hours cutting images from magazines, collaging them onto large-format paper, and “reading” what it all says. This approach is effective because it gives permission to the right side of your brain—the image-based side. Cognitive psychologists and dream therapists tell us that this assists in bringing the unconscious to a higher degree of consciousness. The guide in this process, Eileen Parfrey, says this can be a lovely stepping-stone to deeper creativity for you. Or more finely honed conviction. Or astonishing peace about what has bugged you for so long. It is a process she uses both as an artist and as a spiritual director. March 14, 2024, from 6:30 to 8:30pm PDT (Remember we will be in Daylight Savings Time by March 14.)
