Paddling with the Mystics ($10)

Service Description

Join Ann Steigerwald, Randy Miller, and Christine Naylor of the Franciscan Spiritual Center for “Paddling with the Mystics.” Join us on Thursday morning, August 10, by 9am, at Cook Park in Tigard where we will launch on the Tualatin River. Bring your own kayak or paddle board (or rent one from the outfitter there) and together we will plan to set off on the Tualatin River by 9:30am. As a group, we will paddle through a lovely wild space. We will stop at intervals on the river for some reflection. On this morning we will feast on the words of St Francis of Assisi. After a two-hour paddle on a slow and relatively shallow span of the river, we will gather for an early lunch back at the Cook Park launching site (where there are covered picnic tables). Parking at the site is free. Upon receipt of your registration, we will send you a confirmation email containing (1) a map and directions, (2) an Activity Waiver and Release, and (3) a special link from the Cook Park outfitter for those who need to rent kayaks. (Note: The Cook Park kayak outfitter normally does not open on Thursdays, but they’ve agreed to open for us on this day. Thus, we will need to send you their special link for the day.) Paddling out on a Thursday morning should provide for a gentle journey and less traffic on the river, which will be ideal for those new to kayaking (and for those craving some of the quiet of a contemplative paddle.) Single kayaks generally rent for $35 /two hours. There are also two person kayaks, paddle boards and canoes available. The outfitter provides life vests, which will be required for this event. So, when you register with the Franciscan Center, you may choose any amount ($0, $10, or $20.) Join us as we endeavor to create community, savor the natural splendor of the Pacific Northwest, and practice praying with our bodies, our hearts, and our neighbors.
