Franciscan Spiritual Center
Labyrinth, Simple Supper & Taize
Service Description
Join us on the first Friday of the month (October 6) for an evening of contemplative prayer and fellowship. These “First Fridays” evolve as people join in, offer their gifts and contributions, and expand what a common experience of contemplative prayer can be. Come early (during the 5-6pm hour) as we host space for a labyrinth walk. If you’ve never walked a labyrinth before, Val Hornburg and Tom Welch will offer you an orientation. Or simply arrive and engage in your own walking prayer and holding the space for others. At 6pm, our simple supper will be set out buffet style. It is our intention to use the common table for the purpose of relishing the company of one another and learning to see our neighbors. Then at 7pm, we will gather for a Franciscan-hosted prayer service in the style of Taizé. Taizé is a prayerful form of music known for its stillness, depth, and meditative quality. In the service an ebb and flow of chanting, singing, and silence is used alongside Scripture reading. In this way, prayer and daily life may be united. In a spirit reminiscent of the community known as Taizé and founded in 1940 France, we too may birth the miracle of reconciliation in our world. This is a free event but please RSVP below so we may prepare space for you. Use either button below to RSVP (or send us an email at info@francisspctr.com.) We meet at the Franciscan Spiritual Center’s home on the former Marylhurst University campus (now known as Marylhurst Commons) at 3159 Furman Drive, Marylhurst, OR 97036. Come for all or any part of these contemplative offerings. We will be here to greet you and direct you whenever you arrive.
