Franciscan Taize & Simple Supper

  • Ended
  • Furman Drive

Service Description

Join us on the first Friday evening of the month, June 2, for a simple supper around a common table (at 6pm) followed by our monthly Franciscan-hosted prayer service in the style of Taizé (at 7pm). It is our intention to use the common table for the purpose of relishing one another’s company and engaging in intentional conversation and reflection. The Taizé service that follows will be hosted by Sr Celeste, Mi Phuong, and Hoa. And we hope to gather more musicians as we did last month. We will meet for supper, as before, in the main offices of the Franciscan Spiritual Center at 6pm. Then shortly before 7, we will walk over to the meeting room (called Willow) in Clark Commons (just across from the campus post office) for the prayer service in the style of Taizé. This is a free event but please RSVP below so we may prepare enough food and so we may notify you if changes occur. Taizé is a prayerful form of music known for its stillness, depth, and meditative quality. In the Taizé Service an ebb and flow of chanting, singing, and silence is used alongside Scripture reading and prayer around the cross. The ecumenical community, known as Taizé, founded in France in 1940 is generally known as the community that birthed the reclamation of sacred Christian chant. Brother Roger mov Taizé is a prayerful form of music known for its stillness, depth, and meditative quality. The music often uses a simple melody that repeats over and over and serves to quiet the mind, ready the heart, bind community together, and allow song to become prayer. In the Taizé Service an ebb and flow of chanting and silence is used alongside scripture reading and prayer around the cross. First Fridays of the Month. Supper at 6pm & Taize at 7pm
