Service Description

Beginning on April 1 and continuing for 8 weeks, we will begin a study of Lectio Divina through a Franciscan lens. Father Dan Riley, OFM, invites us to become Franciscan women and men and in the words of St. Bonaventure "to just look at everything and let your senses come alive." Lectio Divina is an ancient spiritual practice that originated in the third century. Fr. Riley's book is for all those who are on a spiritual journey and who long to see the world more beautifully and to become more attentive. This is not a how-to book but through personal stories and examples, Father Dan encourages us to realize wherever we sit the world is alive and active with opportunities to realize our union with the Divine. Fr. Dan Riley, OFM, (our author) is a Franciscan friar of 50 years. He is an artist, teacher, and founder of a Franciscan retreat community in New York. Terry Cappiello (our book group facilitator) is a board member and retreat leader with the Franciscan Spiritual Center and a former mental health counselor, special education teacher, and college professor. She is gifted and inclusive in her capacity to draw people into discussion. This is an 8-week course meeting on Mondays. Due to the popularity of these groups, Terry is hosting two different sessions (both on Mondays). Begins April 1. Register here to join the 3:30-5pm PST session. Registration is limited. Purchase your book ahead of time. (We have copies at the Center for purchase.) Terry sends out the Zoom link and weekly discussion prompts.
