The Great Search Afternoons

In his 2024 book, “The Great Search”, John Philip Newell asks three questions. What are we seeking? What are we searching? How are we to search? Borrowing from the wisdom of nine teachers of different faith traditions and different milieu, he identifies his own yearnings for healing and a spirituality that honors what is longing to be born within him and us. Combining eastern and western thinkers, Christian, Jewish, Sufi, Hindu and psychological perspectives, we hear from Julian of Norwich, Martin Buber, Rumi and others. We have the opportunity to explore multiple paths for accessing and expressing our own spiritual longings. With topics like vision, presence, love, wellness, we can heal our own hearts. Each chapter includes a meditative practice associated with the theme. Join facilitator Terry Cappiello, an advisory board member and retreat and grief facilitator with the Franciscan Spiritual Center, for an eight-week discussion series on this inspiring book. A retired mental health counselor, special education teacher, and college professor, Terry brings warmth, insight, and depth to each session as participants reflect on how Bishop Curry’s message resonates in their own lives.
