St. Brigid's Day, Celebrating Celtic Imbolc
Available spots
Service Description
February 1 marks the Celtic Feast of Imbolc, the halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. In Ireland, it is also a time to celebrate the feast day of St. Brigid of Kildare. Though this time of year is considered the heart of winter in many cultures, the Celts celebrate Imbolc as a time when the first stirrings of spring begin to emerge. Seeds are doing their work underground, quietly preparing for new growth. This is an invitation to ponder what is happening in the depths of our own souls. Snowdrops, associated with St. Brigid, are among the first flowers to burst forth, reminding us of the promise of new life. What might be waiting to emerge in the coming months? Join us for a day of stories, prayers, and blessings; creative collaging and making St. Brigid’s crosses; and celebrating with Irish tea and treats. We’ll also explore the tradition of preparing our homes for the Eve of Imbolc on January 31, when St. Brigid is said to pass over our homes, bringing blessings. Come pause in the heart of winter, reflect on what is stirring within, and welcome the promise of spring.
