Mystics in the Wild: Day Retreat

Service Description

How does the Creator meet us in Creation? Join us for a day of exploring how contemplative practice can be deepened through time spent outdoors in the natural world. We will begin with a morning group session reflecting on our relationship with Creation through the words of Christian mystics. After a lunch break, participants will choose one of three guided contemplative experiences: 1) A guided contemplative walk in nearby Mary S. Young Park* Located approximately a 5-minute drive away, this forest walk (about 2 miles) includes guided reflection stops along the way. 2) A guided walk on the Marylhurst grounds This experience includes reflection at the fountain, meditation at the cemetery, and an opportunity to walk the outdoor labyrinth. This option is best suited for those with limited mobility and is accessible for participants using mobility devices. 3) A guided walk from the Franciscan Spiritual Center to the Willamette Riverfront* A facilitator will guide participants along the trail to the river and back. Participants will receive a water-themed meditation guide and time for personal reflection. *The contemplative walk and river meditation options involve uneven forest pathways, potential trip hazards, and some changes in elevation. Because these activities take place outside the Franciscan Spiritual Center grounds, participants will be required to sign a Release of Liability during the registration process. Mystics in the Wild: Day Retreat Facilitated by Ann, Christine, and Mark $55 Saturday July 18th (in the event of extreme heat, a backup date will be Saturday July 25th) 10 am – 3pm. Doors open at 9:30 a.m, program starts at 10am. Min: 10 Max: 30 We meet in person 3159 Furman Drive Marylhurst OR, 97035 Hospitality: Coffee, tea, water, and treats provided. Please bring a bag lunch. For the afternoon excursions, sturdy shoes, a hat, and a water bottle are recommended.
