Service Description
Contemplative Outreach of Portland, in cooperation with the Franciscan Spiritual Center, is forming a new in-person Centering Prayer group. We will begin meeting on Wednesday, May 24, and intend to gather as a twice-a-month group. We will convene at 9:30am and be with one another until 11:30am. We will do this on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Centering Prayer is a receptive method of silent prayer developed in 1981 by Trappist Monk, Father Thomas Keating, in which we experience God’s presence within us - closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This method of prayer forms both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. A trained presenter will facilitate but this will be a group of like-hearted peers seeking to practice their prayer discipline together. We will meet together at the Franciscan Center, which is on the grounds of the former Marylhurst University (now known as Marylhurst Commons). We are located at 3159 Furman Drive, Marylhurst, Oregon, 97036. For information contact Janis Carlson at jnscarlson@gmail.com. A requested donation will be $5. If you are new to Centering Prayer, or learned it on your own during the pandemic, or desire the community of others, we welcome you.
