Our Peaceful Place

Our Peaceful Place strives to restore hope through hospitality to homeless people. Until October 2006, they provided an evening meal and overnight shelter on Tuesday and Thursday nights in an Alberta St. neighborhood church in NE Portland. In October, the church expanded their outreach to the poor and needed the space for this purpose. Since then, Our Peaceful Place has been homeless, but is actively searching for space, preferable downtown, where it can re-open a day-time hospitality center for homeless people. In the meantime, the Director goes out on foot with her backpack to engage with the marginalized in Portland. The poor call her, Our Peaceful Place.

Sister Carol Ann Warnke served on the Board of Directors from 2003 - 2007and currently serves as a donor to Our Peaceful Place.

"The poor each have a name, a face and a story. Through the hospitality of presence, staff and volunteers of Our Peaceful Place support the dignity of the individual and help each to cross the threshold of hope by knowing their names, recognizing their faces, and lovingly listening to their stories. Isn't that something each of us treasures?"
