The Feminine Face of God

Of the many aspects of God that we often reflect upon, the feminine is often ignored. Our earliest culture imaged the divine as woman, giver of life, womb. In the Hebrew Bible, the word for the compassion of God is the same word for womb. It was by experiencing women as the life-givers, the birthers of children, the food-providers, that early humans made the image of the female the first personification of the divine, as the goddess, the source of all life. Join us for what will surely be lively and invigorating discussion, dientifying all the biblical depections of the feminie God, art exploation and reflection.

Facilitator: Bridget Culpepper has been working with women and studying issues of religion and women's real lived experience for the past 8 years. She is a Doctoral candidate in International Feminist Studies from the San Francisco Theological School, a Master's of Divinity candidate in women's studies and inter-faith religions from Marylhurst University, and holds a Master's of Arts in Applied Theology equivalency from Marylhurst. Her passion is the intersection between women's lived experiences in a global context and religion.
