Downtown Chapel
Downtown Chapel in Old Town, provides a ministry of prayer, service, and education to vulnerable low income people in downtown Portland.. Through their Open Door Ministries they provide a Morning Hospitality Program, a Food Pantry, and Brother Andre's Cafe, which provides a warm meal every Friday night. As a parish, they gather in prayer each day for Mass, prayer groups, and for many other events. Sister Mary Jo and Father Patrick Brennan provide group spiritual direction quarterly for the staff. The Companions, who are the associates of the Sisters of St. Francis, collect supplies for the homeless and volunteer their services to help with the ministry of the Downtown Chapel. Sister Mary Lonergan co-facilitates a bi-monthly workshop, "Nothing But Hope", on topics related to depression and wellness.
"It is my privilege to assist with providing group spiritual direction for the staff at the Downtown Chapel. They live their mission and are indeed the hands and heart of Christ for vulnerable people in Portland."
